Carol Law Conklin has been a batik artist for over thirty-five years. She graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art, studied printmaking at the Museum School of Fine Art in Boston, and spent a summer studying her art in Rome, Italy. With her husband she ran a Jersey cow dairy farm in Hartford, NY named Amity (Friendship) Farm.
Batik is an ancient method of painting on fabric with wax and dyes. Carol’s work has been exhibited in Rockport and Provincetown galleries, the Leverett Art and Craft Center in MA, as well as the Ghent Gallery in Norfolk, VA. She won a special award at the Berkshire Craft Fair. Her favorite subjects are nature, the seasons, mythological subjects, and images of farm animals and farmscapes in Washington County, New York.
On Saturday, May 23, from 5 to 7 pm, there will be a reception for the artist in the main lobby of Tannery Pond Community Center. Refreshments will be served.
