PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to announce the new exhibit, “Duet,” opening in June featuring work by Carol and Frank Hochreiter. The exhibit will be on view from June 5 through June 27, 2015 at The Strand Center for the Arts, located at 23 Brinkerhoff Street, Plattsburgh. The opening reception will be held June 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, is free to the public and is part of the First Weekends in Plattsburgh Art Walk.
Carol and Frank Hochreiter live in New York on the northern end of Lake Champlain near the Canadian border. They call their lakeside home “Almost Canada.” Carol and Frank both retired from teaching in 2001. Carol took her first watercolor class a few years later, and in 2011, Frank agreed to show his photos with Carol’s paintings in a show they entitled, “Duet.” Since then, the couple has exhibited their work regularly in a plethora of venues, from fine art galleries to gourmet restaurants. The Hochreiters are regularly on view at Anthony’s Restaurant & Bistro, Irises Cafe & Wine Bar and Delish, all in Plattsburgh, NY.
Carol is an experimental abstract and non-objective painter who works intuitively and enjoys using unexpected materials and textures to express herself through her art. Frank’s photos encompass an eclectic mix of images. Many are of sculptural and geometric subjects, with an emphasis on overlapping shadows and the reflections they produce.
The opening reception of Carol and Frank Hochreiters’ artwork is also a First Weekends Art Walk event. The Strand Center for the Arts has started a monthly coloring contest that coincides with art openings and First Weekend in Plattsburgh Art Walks. Coloring sheets submitted in the month of May will be on display during the June Art Walk at The Strand Center for the Arts. The top 5 placing submissions will win a prizes sponsored by Smooth Moves. This opportunity also allows children to be a part of the Art Walk with their own work exhibited. The June coloring sheet to be displayed in July will be designed by Carol Hochreiter. Parents can pick up coloring sheets at the Art Walk or during the month of June at The Strand Center on 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh. Parents can also go to the The Strand Center for the Arts Facebook page to download the coloring sheet.
