Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) and What a Raquette Music and Dance present a folk techniques workshop for stringed instrument players on Saturday, April 15th from 10:00am-1:00pm at The TAUNY Center. The workshop will be led by fiddler Ben Plotnick (The Fretless, Sarah Jane Scouten) and cellist Kaitlyn Raitz (Bride & Groom, The Bombadils). In this workshop, participants will explore learning a fiddle tune by ear as well as dozens of ways to accompany under it and improvise over it. The workshop will end with a performance of the tune with students using all the techniques learned in the workshop. There will also be a performance by Kaitlyn and Ben themselves. This program is open to all ages and levels of violin, viola, cello, and bass. Music stands are not necessary.

Preregistration is required for this program. The cost is $45 per participant or $40 for TAUNY Friends. Interested participants can contact TAUNY at 315-386-4289 to register.

Kaitlyn Raitz (cello, vocals) and Ben Plotnick (fiddle, vocals) have extensive experience as musicians, playing a range of genres with a wide variety of musicians across North America.
