Little Falls, NY – Little Falls is home to numerous festivals and city-wide events held throughout the year. Plans for a signature event are well underway for the 4th consecutive year. The Little Falls Cheese Festival is pleased to announce that their annual celebration of New York’s artisan cheesemakers returns Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 10am – 5pm. The day will be packed with food, entertainment, and fun in downtown Little Falls. The streets will be paved with even more cheese this year as the event extends its reach further down Main Street and admission is once again FREE!
Interest in this tasty event has grown significantly since its start in 2015. “We have seen a year over year increase in both guest attendance and vendor interest,” explains Co-Founder, Alice Laurenson. “It is wonderful to see this concept expand and take on new life each summer.” According to fan mail and survey information, guests have traveled from well beyond the Mohawk Valley and far outside New York State.
As attendance continues to grow for this unique event, exposure for this historic “Rock City” does as well. Committee member, Laura Powers, shares, “We’ve had a lot of excitement here throughout the past year with Water Music NY, our 30th annual Canal Celebration, dedication of Lock 17, and of course Paramount Pictures filming scenes from ‘A Quiet Place’ right here on Main Street, to name a few. The dedication of our community to enhance and promote the quality of Little Falls is what makes it all work. This Festival is a shining example of that and demonstrates the positive impact of attracting visitors to our city.”
This annual festival celebrates artisan cheesemakers in New York State and highlights the impact that the city had on the emerging cheese industry dating back to the third quarter of the 19th century when it was coined the Cheese Capital of the US. By revisiting this piece of history, the Little Falls Cheese Festival has fashioned an opportunity for guests to come to the scenic community and explore all that it has to offer.
According to the Committee, they have already secured nearly 50 vendors which include cheesemakers and vendors offering food/implements related to cheese. Laurenson says, “Vendor spaces are filling more quickly than in previous years which is fabulous. We are encouraging those interested to register soon as we are limited to a certain number of booths.” Laurenson also commented, “We remain sensitive to our vendors’ budgets and are pleased to once again offer 10×10 booths for only $60.” According to their online application there is an additional charge of $10 for booths requiring electricity. People may visit the festival website to view the list of vendors “so far” and explore what each has to offer including “new for 2018 products.”
The popular wine tastings offered by Prospect Falls Winery (Prospect), Hummingbird Hills Winery (Fultonville), and Thousand Islands Winery (Alexandria Bay) will be available once again for folks to pair with various cheeses. New this year, guests will also have an opportunity to test their palate with a unique adult beverage known as mead, courtesy of Heartsease Hill Meadery (West Winfield).
In addition to what will be an extensive variety of cheesemakers and cheese related vendors, the event will again provide live entertainment. Angela Harris has penned several original plays that LiFT has performed specially for the festival. She is working on her latest script for the “Mac Blac series” and will partner with Matt Powers, Director of LiFT, to coordinate another hilarious performance incorporating several classic elements of Little Falls. In keeping with the spirit of a dynamic outdoor event, there will also be live music performed throughout the day.
Elaine Cobb of the Committee explains that this event “demonstrates true community spirit including support from the City officials, local businesses, other organizations and countless individuals.” She went on to express gratitude for festival sponsors’ continued support. Returning this year as Platinum Sponsors are Feldmeier Equipment and WKTV News Channel 2. Several opportunities remain for those who would like to support the Little Falls Cheese Festival by way of sponsorship.
