Little Falls, NY – Little Falls is pleased to announce that the Art Walk will return to Main Street on June 21st as part of the Third Thursday program. As the home of the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts for more than 30 years, it is no surprise that this “little” city is big on supporting the arts. Think Local, the City, Little Falls YMCA and the Little Falls Tourism Committee have created another enjoyable all-ages event that brings together this community’s love of art with their ongoing effort to promote building a “Local Living Economy.”

This annual event debuted in 2016 when Think Local was looking to “shake things up” with their June Third Thursday program. Think Local member, Jessica Kelly, explains, “We had a nice event in place during prior years but wanted to try something entirely different for Little Falls. As a team, we agreed on an Art Walk concept and the community response was fantastic!” With the support of the City, Little Falls YMCA, Tourism Committee, the artists, businesses and building owners allowing displays, and volunteers, the Art Walk came to life. Kelly adds, “Going into our third year planning, we looked for ways to enhance it while keeping the focus on local artists.”

The event has grown considerably throughout the past three years. Laura Powers, of Think Local, reports that the downtown exhibit has tripled in size from approximately 20 featured artists in 2016 to more than 60 local artists this year. Powers notes, “This is a clear example of our community’s love of the arts and their support of our local economy. We look forward to seeing the streets packed with people of all ages enjoying the art, activities, entertainment and, of course, shopping!”

Local business owner and artist, Christine Van Meter, shares, “It’s great to see the Art Walk’s success as it has become a signature Think Local event. Van Meter & Van Meter is proud to be the key sponsor this year!” Van Meter notes that her business, located 536 East Main Street, will host The Art of Smart Money Open House from 5:30-7:30pm. Her artwork is also in the exhibit.

The Art Walk begins at the Little Falls Public Library and continues to City Hall where high school art will be displayed. Artwork from more than 60 local artists will be exhibited all throughout Main Street, with Middle School art in the Community Center and Benton Hall Academy art in Italian Feast. The walking exhibit concludes at the American Legion.

A Food Tour returns as part of the celebration, according to the Think Local Facebook page. Tickets are available for $12 and provide a bite from each participating restaurant from 4:30-7:30pm. From the city’s newest pizzeria, Velardi’s, down Main Street to the American Legion, there will be 11 restaurants offering various food bites. Only 300 tickets will be sold and are available pre-sale at each participating restaurant. During the Art Walk, remaining tickets may be purchased at 642 East Main Street (Old Maennerchor) and at the Artisan Fair at the Polish Club. A wine tasting is also being held at Ann Street Liquor from 4-6pm featuring Chilean wines.

There will be kids’ activities along Main Street with a Kids’ Art Fair taking place in the Body Siense parking lot at 54 West Main Street at 5pm where kids can make their own balloon animals and paint a pet rock with Pause 4 All Paws. Hilby the Skinny German Juggle Boy travels the world by plane, train and automobile, and will bring his absurd family friendly act to Little Falls. He will hold two shows at 5:30pm and 6:45pm. In case of rain, his performances will be moved to the Little Falls Library.

The celebration culminates on West Main Street where guests will enjoy free live outdoor music performed by Opus Black String Quartet from 6:30-8:30pm in the Polish Community Home parking lot. There will also be an Artisan Fair at this location beginning at 4:30pm. Folks will see live glass blowing demonstrations, henna body art, jewelry, pottery, recycled art and more.

This is an all-ages, community celebration offering a unique chance to view a wide variety of local artwork throughout beautiful downtown Little Falls. Bring your family and enjoy outdoor entertainment and take the opportunity to check out the local businesses and eateries that will remain open for Art Walk guests. This city and its residents welcome everyone to discover the unexpected grandeur of a small city and “Explore Little Falls!”

Each Third Thursday event has its own theme including the Earth Day celebration in April, and Health and Wellness during May. Kicking off the summer series is the Art Walk. The fun in Little Falls will continue with a visit from the Corning Glass Barge (June 30 and July 1), 4th annual Little Falls Cheese Festival (July 14), Midsummer’s Night Picnic (July 19), and the 31st annual Canal Celebration (August 6-12). Additional celebrations include 17th annual Mohawk Valley Garlic & Herb Festival (September 9), Pizza Challenge (September 20), Oktoberfest (October 18), and Christmas in Little Falls in December. Rotary Park also hosts a Cruise-Inn celebration every Thursday from 5-8pm to showcase classic cars with food, a DJ and a parade through downtown to follow. Additionally, Veteran’s Memorial Park is home to the 2015 and 2017 PGCBL champions, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs.
