Saranac Lake ArtWorks is pleased to be sponsoring a 2-day Plein Air Painting Workshop on Aug 11-12. It will be held at the Paul Smith’s College VIC and will be taught by nationally known, award-winning artist Joe Gyurcsak, of New Jersey.

According to the instructor, The main objective of “Capturing Light & Atmosphere in the Adirondacks” is to teach artists how to see and paint with more confidence and to learn how to create wonderfully energized plein air paintings which capture the unique light and atmosphere the artist envisioned from the moment of their inspiration.

Each day will include a demo, short lecture, AM painting scene, PM painting scene, solid individual guidance and valuable critiques, group critique optional. Drawing, Composition, Value, Color, Edges and Paint and Surface Manipulation will be covered.

Artists with limited experience, as well as those with well developed skills are welcome to attend. Class will start at 8:30 am and conclude at 3, with as much instruction taking place outdoors as possible.

The Paul Smith’s College VIC is located at 8023 State Rt. 30, Paul Smiths, NY. Besides the building that houses exhibit and workshop space, there are miles of hiking trails that lead to a variety of scenic locations, appropriate for plein air painting. Many are just a short walk from the parking area.
