The Kirkland Art Center announced this week that Sally Packard has been hired as the new Executive Director, succeeding Interim Director Elizabeth Tantillo. Packard comes to the art center after seven years as Director at the School of Art at Texas Christian University. After returning to the Central New York area, Packard brings with her a wealth of expertise including a background in visual and performing arts.
Throughout her career, Packard has provided leadership qualities in positions ranging from Director at the Art School at TCU to Chair of the Department of Art at Sage College of Albany. She has acted as Gallery Director at TCU’s two galleries; FWCA – a professional off-site gallery and the Moudy Student Gallery. As well as providing strategic planning and expertise including organizational management, fund-raising and grant writing, Packard brings a love of learning and teaching art. As an Adjunct Professor at MWPAI, Packard has embraced teaching Studio Art and art appreciation.
“The KAC did a national search for an Executive Director who had extensive art background, was excited to reflect and engage our community, and who would guide the KAC into ever creative offerings and sponsorships,” said Edie Danovitz, KAC Board President. “Sally Packard, an established artist with significant art administration experience, has the contagious enthusiasm for bringing art into the community which made her a perfect fit for the KAC.”
Packard will be introduced to the KAC Community at this year’s annual Members’ Show. The exhibit, which showcases over 30 pieces created by the KAC’s talented members, will have an Opening Reception on Sunday, September 30 from 4:00 – 6:00pm. The show will be up from September 18th – October 26th in the Main Gallery.
Free and open to the public, the reception includes works by local artists including quilter Gail Strout, collage artist Steven Specht, watercolorists Ron Rakowski and Pamela Vogan Lynch and many more.
