Ogdensburg, NY — The Frederic Remington Art Museum invites the public to attend any of four “One Hour One Work” sessions in the month of February. This ongoing program is a chance for participants to slow down and dive deep into a single work of art on display at the Remington Museum. In February, there will be four small-group opportunities to spend quality time with Among the Led Horses, which is on loan to the Remington Museum from the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, TX. In each session, a Museum educator facilitates 60 minutes of focused looking, consideration, conversation, and interpretation of a single artwork. Four sessions are offered each month, with a different artwork featured each month.
In February, the featured artwork will be Frederic Remington’s 1909 oil painting, Among the Led Horses. The program will be offered on the following dates and times: Friday, February 8 at noon; Friday, February 15 at 11:00 am; Wednesday, February 20 at 1:00 pm; and Wednesday, February 27 at 2:00 pm. The conversations will be facilitated by Laura Desmond, Julie Pratt, Kathy Crowe, and Dagmar Jaunzems, respectively.
The program is free with admission to the Museum, but space is limited and reservations are requested, in order to facilitate close looking and ease of conversation. To learn more and to register, you can call 315-393-2425 or email Museum Educator Laura Desmond at [email protected]
As part of an historic exchange between the Frederic Remington Art Museum and the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, TX, nine iconic Remington paintings from the Sid Richardson Museum—including Among the Led Horses—are on loan to the Remington Museum in Ogdensburg. The One Hour One Work program gives participants a chance to take in every detail of these outstanding paintings, one by one, while they are on display at the Remington Museum.
In Among the Led Horses, Remington captures a moment of surprise, when soldiers come under gunfire as they crest a hill. With one of the horses he is leading already down, a soldier in the foreground gazes intently at the source of the attack. The nervous tension of the scene is highlighted by Remington’s use of sharp color contrasts and dappling brushstrokes. The Remington Museum welcomes you to come view and discuss this vibrant work.
