Guys on Ice, “The World’s Funniest Ice Fishing Musical” is returning to Pendragon Theatre. Last performed at Pendragon in 2017 to sell-out houses, the popular musical, by Fred Alley and James Kaplan, opens this Friday, January 25, and runs through February 24. This play, loaded with North Country humor, is the perfect night or afternoon out for anyone looking for a fun, light-hearted comedy that will provide laughs whether they have ever stepped foot on the ice or not.

Marvin, Lloyd and the aptly named beer and bait “borrower” Ernie the Moocher sit in Marvin’s shanty out on a frozen lake, fishing through a hole in the ice and waiting for the perch to bite and for a local TV show host to come and interview them. They drink beer, discuss women and sports, swap bad jokes and drink beer. Did we mention they drink beer? To them, the ice offers the sanctuary of a church and escape from the neighborhood bar – a place where life’s complicated problems find resolution in the simplest of ways.

Lucky Cerruti, Brendan Gotham and Brandy Clark play the three fishing buddies who sing and dance delivering songs like “Ode to a Snowmobile Suit” (“From the top of your hat to the tip of your boot, when it’s 30 below, there’s no substitute for the comfort and warmth of your snowmobile suit”), “On Thin Ice” and “There’s 12 Beers in a 12 Pack.” Kimberley Bouchard is directing the show again this year, “It is such a pleasure to bring Guys on Ice back during the 2019 Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake. The actors and production team and generous donations from local ice fishermen means that this year will be even more fun for audiences. We are very excited to welcome people to the theatre before, during and after the Carnival.”
