The Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., will hold three poetry writing workshops in conjunction with the Library’s upcoming 2019 Annual Poetry and Illustration Contest and Exhibit: My Favorite. Participants in the workshops are not required to enter their work and exhibit entrants are not required to attend the workshops.

Melissa Macdonald will lead the workshop for adults on Thursday, January 17 from 5-7 pm. Mel, one of the area’s leading poets, is also known for many of her other creative endeavors in ceramics, fiber arts and her avid love of reading.

Workshops for student writers will be held on Saturday, January 19 from 11 am – 1 pm. Kindergarten through 6th grade students will be led by Christine Holt. Christine is a veteran teacher and school administrator in the Inlet School District and utilizes a variety of teaching methods to captivate student’s attention.

Students in grades 7 – 12 will be led by Alison Eyre Albright. Alison is a retired English teacher who has taught courses in AP Literature, non-fiction writing, and poetic forms. She was the winner of the library’s poetry exhibit in the adult category in 2016 and has also been the director of the library’s Summer Writing Workshops.

Registration for the free workshops is appreciated but walk-ins are welcome. Stop in or call the Library at 315 369-6008 to register or for information about entering the Poetry and Illustration Contest. Entries to the Exhibit will be accepted from February 1- February 28. These programs are funded by CNY Arts and the Friends of the Library.
