Windsor Comb Back Side Chair, Boot Bench or Tall Kitchen Stool with David Abeel. #1478-0722. 2 Days.

July 22 @ 9:00 am - July 23 @ 4:00 pm

$170. – $210.

Choose from a menu of 3 great furniture projects: Build a beautiful classic heirloom quality Windsor Comb Back Side Chair where your comfort is top priority; it is versatile, strong and perfect for any modern or colonial decor. Eating all your meals at the kitchen island? The Tall Kitchen Stool is the perfect Windsor project for your daily use. This is a very comfortable stool that will be tailored to the maker’s height. Or make the Back-Door Boot Bench, the perfect place to stop on the way out or in, when shoes and boots must go on or off. Immerse yourself in the tools and techniques of traditional furniture making. Unlock the secrets of traditional mortice and tenon chair design, layout and tools. Your project will be well-engineered, very comfortable and styled to fit any decor. Native hardwoods like cherry, oak, walnut and pine will be used. On Day 1, students will explore sighting lines and drilling angles, fit legs and drill for stretchers, shape, boil and bend a comb and start excavating their seat. They will shape parts using travishers, compass plane, scorp, draw knife and spoke shaves. Parts requiring turning on a lathe will be provided. On Day 2, students will finish excavating their seat and shaving spindles, sanding and preparing wedges for final assembly. By the end of the class all will be assembled, leveled, glued up and ready for paint or clear finish.

NOTE: Age limit for students: Over 18 but younger teens are welcome if accompanied by a parent or grandparent. Please call AFS at the time of registration to declare which piece of furniture you have chosen to make. The materials fee will vary based on your choice of furniture – from $195 for the Tall Stool or the Back-Door Boot Bench to $275 for the Comb Back side chair or the Back-Door Boot Bench with natural edged back. An optional footstool can be added for an additional $95.
